High drive set for another round of improvements

Construction on High Drive is getting started again. Phase II of work will extend from Bernard to Grand Boulevard this spring (Phase I construction last year ran from 29th Avenue to Bernard Street).

Plans for both phases of the High Drive project called for lots of improvements, including pavement reconstruction, storm drainage improvements, sanitary sewer improvements, a water main replacement, and three small combined sewer overflow storage tanks.

Here are some of the improvements happening with this year's work:

  • Six foot sidewalks on the bluff side only continuing on from the meandering path from Phase I
  • A four foot planting strip on the bluff side between Manito Blvd and Grand Boulevard
  • A continuation of the bike lanes on both sides of the street

Phase II isn't the only project coming to the area this construction season, though. Work on CSO 20 at High Drive and Hatch Road will construct a storage facility for the Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) tank. The project will include road replacement from Grand to Scott Street, new crosswalks at Hatch Road, traffic calming, parking, bike lanes, a pedestrian island, and sidewalk.
