City work begins ahead of North South Freeway-related project

Construction crews have begun work at the intersection of Wellesley Avenue and Freya Street, ahead of a larger project connected with the North South Corridor (NSC).

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is constructing a roundabout at Wellesley and Freya to facilitate traffic movement, as the North South freeway interchange will connect to Wellesley just west of Freya. Before that work begins, crews on behalf of the City are relocating or replacing sewer and water infrastructure (WSDOT is funding the City’s work as well).

During the City’s utility work, which is expected to last through the end of July, Wellesley will be closed from Market to Rebecca and Freya will be closed from Broad to Longfellow. For the latest information on road closures and updates on this and other construction projects, check out the Weekly Obstruction Notice.
