Havana Street Construction is Complete

Recently the City of Spokane finished construction on Havana Street from 37th Avenue to Glenrose Road. The Havana Street project included the use of porous asphalt bike lanes. This asphalt allows stormwater to flow through the street surface and soak into the soil. Gravel swales were installed to help reduce stormwater runoff too.

Other major improvements for the area included;

  • Full-width pavement replacement
  • Additional sidewalk with pedestrian buffer strip
  • New 36-inch water main
  • Reduction of traditional curing
  • Parking spaces added at Ben Burr Park
  • Connected sidewalks from Havana to Glenrose in partnership with Spokane County

The City has actively been working to improve the health of the Spokane aquifer and this project is no exception. The installation of the 36-inch water main between 37th Avenue and the Brown Park reservoirs at 57th Avenue was part of the City’s Integrated Clean Water Plan.
