Parking Services has been working hard to develop the 2017 parking plan. Their goal is to create a plan that will provide parking options for all users of the system, including businesses, employees, residents, and customers
The downtown meter system has approximately 3,000 on-street metered parking stalls. However, with an average of 10,000 vehicles traveling downtown daily, on-street parking alone cannot satisfy this demand. Luckily, the parking system is a combination of on-street and off-street parking options. On-street parking provides convenience and proximity to users, which is ideal for short-term stays. Off-street parking lots and garages are better suited to accommodate users who need long-term stays, like employees and residents of the downtown. Businesses thrive when parking is available in front of their location, and business success equals success for the entire downtown system.
In order to make parking available for business customers, the City has implemented times limits at on-street parking metered stalls to create turnover. Turnover allows more customers to get where they want to go, which will encourage people to visit and park downtown. Time limit restrictions range from 2 to 4 hours in the most congested areas to all-day hours in the outlying regions
Recently, the Spokane City Council passed a resolution calling for better enforcement of meter time limits. This will help create more parking spaces for your next downtown visit. With everyone’s cooperation there will be room for people to park short-term in meter spots and long-term in parking lots or garages.
