Chief Garry Park Neighborhood

Chief Garry Park Neighborhood Action Plan

History

In 2007 the City of Spokane allocated $550,000 for the purposes of helping each of the neighborhoods develop their own neighborhood plans, resulting in approximately $21,150 for each neighborhood. In 2015 the City initiated the process for the Chief Garry Park neighborhood in coordination with the Neighborhood Council. In August of 2015 the Neighborhood Council signed a memorandum of understanding with the City and began the two-year neighborhood planning process.

On Wednesday, February 24, 2016 the first neighborhood action plan workshop was attended by 40 individuals. Project consultants led the participants through a visioning exercise to develop neighborhood priorities and establish a vision statement for the neighborhood and representatives from Spokane Transit Authority presented an update on the proposed Central City Line. On June 2, neighborhood residents walked through two retail areas in the neighborhood to determine positive elements that should be maintained, identify current challenges, and discuss potential opportunities for future improvements residents would like to see occur in these areas.

A second neighborhood workshop was held on June 23rd, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at 2103 E. Mission. Topics discussed included the outcomes of the first workshop, the results of the neighborhood walkabouts, and a visual preference exercise.

A third workshop was held on April 27, 2017 to gain input on the final draft plan.

The City's Plan Commission reviewed the draft Plan at their regularly scheduled meeting on July 28, 2017. The Commissioners unanimously recommended the Plan's acceptance by the City Council.

The Plan was presented to the City Council on July 10, 2017 and was recognized by RES 2017-0056 (PDF 2.4 MB).
