The 2020 Everybody Counts Campaign planning is well underway and we need volunteers to assist with collecting basic information from people experiencing homelessness in Spokane County!
The count will be held on January 23, 2020. Counting all the people experiencing homelessness in Spokane County means we need a lot of volunteer support the day of – and for the following seven days (to ensure we get an accurate count of the unsheltered). For this role, we are looking for people who have experience working with vulnerable populations.
Completion of a 2 hour training is required for new volunteers, whereas a one hour refresher course is required for returning volunteers. Then prior to the count, volunteers will select a location(s) and day(s)/time(s) to complete a 4 hour shift at a food pantry or service site during the count timeframe of January 23rd - January 30th. You can sign up for as many or as few opportunities as you like.
To sign up as a volunteer, please use our 2020 website portal. There is also additional information available on the portal as to what a volunteer can expect, as well as the purpose of a Point-in-Time count.

Part of the campaign is a donation drive. The greater Spokane area has very giving residents – which means we will need help assembling care packages that will be shared with the emergency shelter system and with those we count during the campaign!
This year the City of Spokane's CHHS department has a goal of making 1309 Care Bags to distribute to Count Participants.
Each bag will have a toothbrush, toothpaste, bottle of water, a soft granola bar, winter gloves and socks. These items can be purchased on the Everybody Counts Amazon wish list or dropped off donation items at City Hall (808 West Spokane Falls Boulevard, Spokane, WA 99201).
The City also aims to collect as many winter hats, gloves, scarves and socks as possible in order to help shield our neighbors living in homelessness from the winter weather.
These items can also be bought from the Amazon wish list.
There will also be designated donation drop off boxes scattered throughout Spokane County starting the week of December 16th. The locations will include: the Spokane Eye Clinic, North Spokane Library, Spokane Valley Library, Spokane Housing Authority and City Hall. More locations will be announced in the coming week. Donation drives will run through January 13th.
