The Community, Housing, and Human Services Department (CHHS) allocates approximately $400,000 annually to Neighborhood Councils to support construction related activities that directly benefit low and moderate individuals and households. Neighborhood Councils are encouraged to coordinate and identify priority community based projects. CHHS will provide technical assistance workshops for Neighborhood Councils interested in learning more about the program. Neighborhood Councils are encouraged to attend one of the four workshops listed below.
Funding through this program is restricted to projects and activities related to a construction type activity. This program does not fund general operation type expenses. For more information, please contact CHHS at firstname.lastname@example.org, or at 509.625-.6325.
The biggest change for 2019 is a shift in the timeline that will allow Neighborhood Councils more time to make funding recommendations. In the past, Neighborhood Councils would submit their funding recommendations 18 months in advance of funding availability. This revised timeline allows Neighborhood Councils to submit funding recommendations three (3) months before the program year start of July 1.
Everything else should look familiar to Neighborhood Councils. CHHS has attempted to simplify the program and provide additional clarifying resources to neighborhoods.
For additional information, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions document provided on this page under Related Documents.
The process for allocating funds will change from individual Neighborhood Councils to Council Districts in 2020. This process is not included as part of the 2019 (current) application process. More information will be provided to Neighborhood Councils once this application cycle concludes on Monday, April 1, 2019.
