Spokane Mayor David Condon has directed that Washington State and United States flags at all City facilities be lowered to half-staff on Thursday, Feb. 25 in memory of Washington National Guard SFC Matthew McClintock of Des Moines, WA. McClintock, 30, was killed in action on Jan. 5 in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan.

SFC McClintock was posthumously promoted to Sergeant First Class.

“We are deeply saddened by the death of Sergeant McClintock,” said Mayor Condon. “We encourage anyone with a flag outside their home or business to join us in this recognition to honor his memory and the ultimate sacrifice he paid in service to our country.”

Flags should remain at half-staff until the close of business or sunset on Feb. 25, or be raised back to full-staff first thing Friday morning, Feb. 26.

A memorial service for SFC McClintock will be held on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
