Today the Indian Trail and Five Mile Neighborhoods came together to celebrate the completion of the Barnes Road extension project. The new road provides a direct route between these two North Side neighborhoods, something that’s been sought after for years.
Barnes Road starts at Phoebe Street in Indian Trail and connects into Strong Road in Five Mile. Since early November, citizens in these neighborhoods have been enjoying shorter commutes!
The new Barnes Road will help reduce first responder’s response times to emergencies. In fact, the Spokane Fire Department estimates that the new Barnes Road will help reduce Station 17’s response time to the Five Mile Neighborhood by 50 percent!
The $1.7 million project also included the installation of a 12-inch water main, and new curb sidewalk, bike lanes, and stormwater facilities.
