Spokane Police Respond to Midday Shooting on STA Bus

Just after 12:00 p.m. on August 11^th 2026, Spokane Police Officers responded to the area of Franklin Park for a reported shooting on an STA bus. It was reported the involved subjects got off the bus at Franklin Park. The bus driver continued further south and stopped a safe distance away.

Officers arrived quickly and located four involved juveniles in the park, while other officers gathered witness statements and evidence on the bus.

One of the juveniles had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to their arm. Officers quickly provided medical aid until medics arrived. The juvenile was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers observed video evidence of the incident. It appears the shooting was a product of the unsafe handling of a firearm and not an intentional criminal act.

Witnesses confirmed the four juveniles located by officers were involved and no one was outstanding. As officers continued their investigation, they located a backpack belonging to one of the juveniles. A judge granted a search warrant for the backpack and officers recovered two firearms. One of the firearms had been reported stolen previously. The investigation into that case will continue.

At this time, one of the juveniles has been arrested and booked for two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2^nd Degree as well as Rendering Criminal Assistance 2^nd Degree. Further charges may be pending.
