(please email your completed application as an attachment to volunteer@spokanepolice.org.)

The Spokane Police Explorer / Police Cadet Program is partnered with the Boy Scouts of America under their Learning for Life Program. Explorers are comprised of boys and girls ages 15-18 years old. Cadets are comprised of boys and girls ages 19-24 years old. They have to maintain a 2.5 GPA while enrolled in school and commit to volunteering 20 hours per month. Their training is on the first, third, and fifth Monday of the month. There are two Explorer Academies per year and it is mandatory to attend one of the academies. Explorers / Cadets help at community events such as Hoopfest, Bloomsday, Lilac Parade, and others. When Explorers and Cadets reach a certain level of proficiency they are allowed to ride with an officer on patrol.

Cadets can advance to a level 2 Cadet which allows them to assist patrol officers with cold report calls (Burglaries, Hit and Run Collisions, Pick Up Found Property etc.). Level 2 Cadets receive advanced training on non-emergency vehicle operation and are qualified to take a vehicle out on patrol to respond to non-emergency calls.

Those interested can attend a training to see if they would like to be an Explorer / Cadet. Email volunteer@spokanepolice.org or Call Volunteer Services at 509.363.8283 to schedule a training. After you attend the training you can download and fill out the application online or print it out and bring it to Volunteer Services at the Public Safety Building, W. 1100 Mallon, Spokane, WA. 99260.
