Five Mile Road from Lincoln Road to Strong Road

Project Number: 2015056

Project Location: Five Mile Road from Lincoln Road to Strong Road

Project Status: The final lift of asphalt on Five Mile Road was completed earlier this month. The contractor is working on the installation of sidewalks, driveways, a crosswalk across Five Mile at St. Thomas Moore and two culverts (critical to drain adjacent fields). As there isn’t adequate room to complete this work if the road is open to traffic, the road will remain closed until its completion. The contractor is currently running extra crews to expedite progress on both sides of the roadway.

Five Mile (Lincoln to Strong) should be opened to thru traffic by the end of the day, Wednesday November 27th.

Additional work will be conducted in 2020.  It is the City's intention to complete the remaining work, including the installation of concrete this winter and swale plantings in the spring, under lane restrictions only (no closures or detours).

Description: The project will include full depth pavement restoration on Five Mile Road, from Lincoln to Strong. This will include the installation of ADA ramps at intersections and crosswalks, replacement of a 18" steel water main (from Lincoln to Strong), Stormwater improvements (swales and trees), installation of pedestrian illumination at Five Mile and Strong Road, and the installation of a roundabout at the intersection of Five Mile and Strong Road.

Detour: A detour will be in place, which will utilize W. Johannsen Road and Cedar.

In order to preserve the street life by minimizing the impact of pavement cuts, the City of Spokane, Spokane County and the City of Spokane Valley, in coordination with public and private area utilities, together adopted a regional pavement cut policy. Although there are nuances to this policy, it generally places a 3-year moratorium on future pavement cuts following pavement construction or reconstruction.

The City of Spokane's Pavement Cut Policy applies for this project. More information.
