Planning/Scoping Stage: Sprague Avenue from Bernard to Scott Street

Project planning and scoping is under way to improve another section of Sprague Avenue - from Bernard east to Scott within the South University District.

In April 2018, the City sought some initial feedback from citizens on possible features of the project that can enhance the street's appearance and economic vitality. That feedback was centered around how traffic should be configured along Sprague, specifically tying the changes that have occurred to the east into this section, as appropriate.

Survey data from citizens and property and business owners along Sprague led to the following recommendations for the street.

  • The three-lane street section will be extended from Sherman to Pine Street.
  • West-bound Sprague will have a turn-only lane approaching Bernard Street, dropping to one lane west-bound lane.
  • Parking will be retained on both sides of the roadway, except between Browne and Division Streets.
  • Sidewalk will be repaired and widened.

The City will be sharing the survey outcomes with interest groups in June and July. Design of the project will begin mid-summer, 2018, with construction anticipated to begin in the spring of 2019. Funding for the project construction will be a combination of arterial street funding and University District Revitalization Area revenue.
