What is the Spokane Gives initiative?

Born from the commitment to building Spokane as the most compassionate City, former Mayor David Condon (2012-2019) began the Spokane Gives initiative in 2014 as a week-long volunteer event throughout the community. Today, in partnership with the Spokane County United Way, Spokane Gives takes place annually throughout the entire month of April and serves as an expansion of the already impressive philanthropy in the community and works to build the network between volunteer and non-profit to promote giving year-round.

Our partnership with Spokane County United Way enables us to track volunteer efforts in our community to measure our outputs (volunteerism) that are resulting in sustained and impactful outcomes.

How has Spokane Gives impacted the community?

Since Spokane Gives was expanded to a full month, almost 100,000 volunteers have given over 440,000 hours of service. Using the federal volunteer equivalent, this equates to a $10.9 million impact in our city! Thanks to our compassionate community, hundreds of non-profit organizations have been able to complete much-needed service projects each year, and the diverse network of volunteers continues to grow.

The goal is to increase giving exponentially by connecting volunteers’ interests, talents and passion to service opportunities in each sector.

Count me in! How can I get involved?

Pick your passion! There's no limit to what an act of service can be, anything from serving on a committee or board, to helping clean up litter along your favorite trail, or organizing a food drive in your workplace.

It all starts by registering at VolunteerSpokane.org!

Register as a Volunteer: Registering as a volunteer allows you to sign-up for service events and track the hours you complete.

Register your Organization: Do you have a project you need volunteers for? If so, your organization needs to register with Volunteer Spokane through the Spokane County United Way. United Way will help assist you through the process.
