At 10:15 am on March 6th, 2020, companies from the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) were dispatched to a structure fire at 1405 W 8th Avenue. SFD Dispatchers had received a 911 call reporting smoke coming from one of the upstairs apartments.

SFD companies were on the scene in under 5 minutes of dispatch and found smoke showing from the 2nd floor of a multi-unit apartment building. Firefighters quickly evacuated the complex, located the fire and extinguished it before progressing to any of the adjacent units or the attic.

The fire was contained to one unit that sustained moderate smoke damage. The apartment was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Occupants of the remaining units were allowed to return their apartments once the fire was determined to be completely extinguished, and all products of combustion were removed entirely from the complex. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The SFD Special Investigation Unit (SIU) was on scene to determine the cause of the fire. The cause of the fire is incendiary and was criminal in nature. More information will be released as it becomes available.
