City Council Cancels Today's 6 p.m. Legislative Session and Open Forum

In the interest of public health, Spokane City Council President Breean Beggs has cancelled the Monday, March 16, 6 p.m., City Council Legislative Session. Instead, the Council will receive a report from the Mayor, City staff, and leaders from community organizations on the community’s response to the COVID-19 virus. The report will be shown live on CityCable 5 and streamed on the web at www.spokanecity.org.

No public testimony – including public forum – will be taken and no legislative items will be considered. Attendance will be limited to 50 people, including staff. The public is encouraged to tune in from home.

“The COVID-19 situation in Spokane is changing quickly. After the Governor’s announcement that events with more than 50 people in attendance should be cancelled, we have decided to cancel the Council Legislative Session for tonight to ensure that we can keep the public safe,” Beggs said. “I look forward to hearing from Mayor Woodward, Dr. Lutz and others with an update on the virus’s effects locally and their plans moving forward.”

The following items were scheduled to be considered by Council tonight, but Council took action during their standing 3:30 p.m. Briefing Session:

  • Special Budget Ordinance C35897 amending Ordinance No. C35857 and declaring an emergency and appropriating funds in: General Fund FROM: Unappropriated Reserves, $151,800; TO: Mayor’s Office, same amount. This action allows budgeting to create a Director – Emergency Management position. (Passed 7-0)
  • Resolution 2020-0015 Referring project No. 2017080 (Centennial Trail – Summit Gap – Boone to Pettet) to the Design Review Board for its review (Passed 7-0)
  • Resolution 2020-0016 Declaring a 1992 Spartan Motors Pumper surplus and authorizing its donation to the Intendencia Nacional de Bomberos del Peru, Station Oxapampa No. 47 for $1.00 (Passed 7-0)
  • Resolution 2020-0017 Declaring a 1992 Spartan Motors Pumper surplus and authorizing its donation to the Spokane County Fire District 2 for $1.00 (Passed 7-0)
