Work to revitalize East Sprague District continues

Over the past few years you've heard us talk a lot about driving new job and economic opportunities. This week, with the assistance of Smart Growth America, we will take a significant step forward in that effort.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, City of Spokane officials will meet with representatives from Smart Growth America to focus on tools and strategies we can use to further our revitalization efforts along East Sprague, in particular. The discussion will focus on the East Sprague target investment area, but the lessons we learn, the ideas we uncover and the strategies we ultimately implement will have far-reaching effects on Spokane's economic vitality.

East Sprague is going through major revitalization under the Targeted Area Investment Program, a designation the City Council gave the neighborhood to drive economic development. Improvements made so far to East Sprague are just the beginning of a larger vision the City Council and I share for moving this underutilized business district and surrounding neighborhood forward. Tens of millions of dollars in investments are planned along East Sprague and in the surrounding neighborhoods over the next few years.

You can join the discussion and help us build a more vibrant East Sprague District. The workshop session on Tuesday is open to the public.

  • WHEN: September 15th, 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.
