Junior Police Academy

After a successful inaugural event, The Spokane Police Department, Riverfront Park, Blumenthal Uniforms, and Mobius Children’s Museum are teaming up to put on Spokane’s second annual Junior Police Academy! Children of all ages are invited to the free event on Saturday, May 7th from 1-4 p.m.

The Junior Police Academy is happening at the North Shelter at Riverfront Park. The North Shelter is on the north side of the river, just to the southeast of the Spokane Arena.

Kids will have the opportunity to participate in several fun and educational activities:

  • Explore a real police patrol car and SWAT Tactical Vehicle
  • Talk with a K-9 officer and his K-9 partner
  • Dress up in police gear provided by Blumenthal Uniforms and take a photo
  • Color with a Cop (police badge coloring pages provided by Mobius)
  • Sign up with Operation Family ID*
  • Practice making an emergency call with the 911 call simulator
  • See Explosives Disposal Unit robot demonstration
  • Meet downtown Bicycle Police Officers

Children who complete at least three of the four stations will receive official certification as a Junior Spokane Police Officer and a free day pass to Mobius Children’s Museum.

This event is “first-come, first-serve” with no sign up necessary.

*Operation Family ID (OFID) will be giving parents free identity packets for their children. OFID is a community service program directly tied to the Missing & Exploited Children Organization and Amber Alert. This program is administered by Spokane C.O.P.S. Identification kits include a digital photograph and fingerprints. In the event a loved one is missing, a family member can forward the critical information quickly to local law enforcement agencies for the production of flyers and media distribution.
