Providence Playscape

Thanks to a community benefit grant from Providence Health Care, an inclusive play space for people of all abilities and ages is being built on the west end of Havermale Island in Riverfront Park.

With designs donated by Shane's Inspiration, an organization specializing in creating inclusive play spaces, the new playground features play elements for children of all abilities. The space will include sensory-rich areas for play, as well as quiet spaces for relaxing and exploring.

Studies have proven that integrated play helps develop:

  • Fine and gross motor skills
  • Receptive communication skills
  • Cerebral functions
  • Physical strength, coordination and balance
  • Social skills including independence and self esteem

This project was funded as part of the Campaign for Riverfront Spokane by the Spokane Parks Foundation. Learn more about the campaign and how you can get involved!

Other Improvements

Other improvements on West Havermale will include renovation of the Expo '74 Theme Stream, a signature art piece from Artist Meejin Yoon, a maintenance yard, and parking improvements.
