Section 17F.030.110 Required Inspections

Every owner and operator of a boiler or pressure vessel must cause it to be inspected by the boiler inspector:

  1. upon installation;
  1. upon completion of repairs or alterations;
  1. in the case of a power boiler, internally and externally each year (approximately six months apart);
    1. In the case of a low-pressure heating boiler, externally biennially. In addition it must be inspected internally biennially except:
      1. where construction does not permit an internal inspection,
      1. a boiler using glycol or oil, or
      1. a boiler adequately treated with a corrosion inhibitor.
    1. In the case of a low-pressure steam boiler, as a minimum, a biennial internal inspection of the low water fuel cutoffs.
  1. in the case of an unfired pressure vessel, externally biennially. When construction permits a vessel subject to corrosion must, in addition, be inspected internally biennially. An ultrasound thickness gauge may be used in place of the internal inspection;
  1. by a hydrostatic pressure test or an accumulation test done by the operator in the presence of the inspector, whenever the inspector deems it necessary;
  1. the owner or user must prepare a boiler for internal inspection in the following manner, or as required by the inspector:

    1. all grates of internally fired boilers must be removed.
    1. at each annual inspection brickwork shall be removed as required by the inspector in order to determine the condition of the boiler headers, furnace, supports, or other parts.

    1. any leakage of steam or hot water into the boiler must be cut off by disconnecting the pipe or valve at the most convenient point.
    1. the low-water cutout must be disassembled to such a degree as the inspector may require.
  1. the owner or user must prepare an unfired pressure vessel for inspection to the extent deemed necessary by the inspector.
