Section 17E.060.470 Aquaculture
Definition
Aquaculture means the rearing or farming of fish, shellfish, or other aquati c plants and animals and may include accessory uses. Examples of accessory uses include, but are not limited to pump houses, office space, on-site staff housing, maintenance buildings, storage buildings, equipment sheds, and aquaculture research and diagnostics laboratories.
Aquaculture is allowed for the purpose of enhancing or restoring salmonid populati ons and fisheries, for enhancing or restoring nati ve aquati c plants, or for educati onal purposes, or for sport harvest and sustenance purposes.
Aquaculture is limited to the Urban Conservancy Environment and Natural Environment environmental designati on of the Latah Creek shoreline district.
Aquaculture is not permitted in areas where it would result in a net loss of ecological functions, adversely impact aquati c macroinvertebrates, or significantly conflict with navigati on and other water-dependent uses.
Aquaculture facilities should be designed and located so as not to spread disease to nati ve aquati c life, establish new nonnati ve species which cause significant ecological impacts, or significantly impact the aesthetic qualities of the shoreline.
