Chapter 16A.62 Motorized Pers onal Transportation Devices
Section 16A.62.020 Duty to Obey Rules of the Road
Operation On a Street.
Any pers on operating a motorized pers onal transportation device on a street shall obey all rules of the road applicable to motor vehicles as well as the instructions of official traffic-control signals, sign, and other control devices applicable to motor vehicles, unless otherwise directed by a law enforcement official or their designee. Every pers on operating a motorized pers onal transportation device upon a street shall be granted all of the rights and shall be subject to all of the duties and responsibilities applicable to the driver of a motor vehicle pursuant to chapter 16A.61 SMC except as to those provisions thereof which by their very nature can have no application.
Operation on Sidewalks or Other Public Areas.
Any pers on operating a motorized pers onal transportation device propelled by an electric motor on a sidewalk shall obey all rules of the road applicable to bicycles, as well as the instructions of official traffic-control signals, sign and other control devices applicable to bicycles, unless otherwise directed by a law enforcement official or their designee. Every pers on operating an electrically propelled motorized pers onal transportation device upon a sidewalk shall be granted all of the rights and shall be subject to all of the duties and responsibilities applicable to operator of a bicycle pursuant to chapter 16A.61 SMC except as to those provisions thereof which by their very nature can have no application.
All motorized pers onal transportation devices being operated on a sidewalk or other public area, other than a street, shall be restricted to a maximum speed of ten miles per hour.
