Title 13 Public Utilities and Services
Chapter 13.02 Solid Wa ste
Article VII. Disposal Rates
Section 13.02.0566 Nonprofit
Wa ste Reduction Corporation
Customers who satisfy the requirements of this section may qualify for a nonprofit wa ste reduction corporation rate. Customers not qualifying under this section are subject to the general tonnage rate for mixed solid wa ste. To qualify, a customer must apply to the director and demonstrate the following requirements:
Customer must be a corporation, not for profit, organized under chapter 24.03 RCW; and
Customer must show qualification as a tax exempt corporation under the Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3); and
Customer must be a business engaged in promoting the department’s wa ste reduction and recycling goals, primarily involved in processing abandoned goods for resale or reuse, with proceeds from said resale committed to financing human service programs.
Upon determination of eligibility by the director, a nonprofit wa ste reduction corporation may receive a discount of thirty-five percent from the rates generally in effect for City disposal facility service, plus applicable state taxes.
The discount is only allowed where, in the regular course of disposal facility business, the eligible load is separately weighed and billed.
The discount shall not apply where the nonprofit wa ste reduction corporation’s wa ste is mixed or included with other wa ste or not normally separated and weighed.
Eligibility to dispose of solid wa ste under the nonprofit wa ste reduction corporation rate is a revocable privilege. Failure to comply with conditions or pay all fees will result in revocation or denial of the nonprofit rate discount privilege.
