Section 17C.130.540 Treating Blank Walls – Building Design

1. Purpose.

To mitigate blank walls by providing visual interest.

2. Treating Blank Walls Implementation.

When this building design element is chosen:

1. 1. Where windows are not provided on walls (or portions of walls) facing streets or visible from right-of-way, at least two of the following elements shall be incorporated: (R)

1. 1. 1. Masonry (but not flat concrete block).

1. 1. 2. Concrete or masonry plinth at wall base.

1. 1. 3. Belt courses of a different texture and color.

1. 1. 4. Projecting cornice.

1. 1. 5. Projecting metal canopy.

1. 1. 6. Decorative tilework.

1. 1. 7. Trellis containing planting.

1. 1. 8. Medallions.

1. 1. 1. Opaque or translucent glass windows.

1. 1. 10. Artwork such as sculptures, murals, inlays, mosaics or elements integrated with the project.

1. 1. 11. Vertical articulation.

1. 1. 12. Lighting fixtures.

1. 1. 13. Recesses.

1. 1. 14. An architectural element not listed above, as approved, that meets the intent.
