- Mixed Construction.
Buildings complying with this chapter may be designed and constructed where the basement and first story or the first and second story without a basement is constructed of Type I construction, and the top stories of Type VA construction. The Type I construction shall be separated from the Type VA construction above with a three-hour occupancy separation along the full interface of the two construction types including overhangs and balconies.

Type I and Type VA construction shall be as specified in chapter 6 of the International Building Code (IBC).
