Chapter 17F.070 Existing Building and Conservation Code

Section 17F.070.170 Construction – Structural Requirements

IBC Table 503 and Section 602 apply to all existing buildings except that:

  1. any type of construction permitted by the building code is allowed to continue, so long as:
    1. foundations, floors, walls, roofs, and other structural components are capable of resisting all forces and loads;
    1. the building is weather protected so as to shelter the occupants against the elements and to exclude dampness; and
    1. wood is protected against termite damage and decay as provided in the building code;
  1. every hotel and apartment house over two stories in height, regardless of capacity, must have an approved fire alarm system.
