Chapter 17F.070 Existing Building and Conservation Code
Section 17F.070.220 Doors and Openings
- The requirements of IBC Sections 1014, 1015, 1016, 1017, 1018, 1019, and 1020 apply, except that:
-
- an existing, solid, bonded wood core door, one and three-eighths inch thick, or an equivalent, may be kept; and
-
- a door or other opening protected on both sides by an approved thermal detection or sprinkler system may open on an exit, so long as the opening does not lead to a special area to be protected, as defined in SMC 17F.080.090.
- Transoms and openings (except doors from corridors to rooms) must be fixed closed and covered with material equivalent to the surrounding separation.
- A door, when open, must not reduce the minimum required width of an exit way more than seven inches.
