Chapter 04.14 Retirement and Pension Boards

Article II. Spokane Employees' Retirement System Board

Section 04.14.040 Membership – Selection
  1. The board consists of nine (9) members.
    1. Three (3) board members are appointed by the city council. One of the board member appointments is a council member.
    1. four (4) board members are elected from employees eligible for the retirement system by such eligible employees;
    1. One (1) board member, the Mayor or the Mayor’s designee.
    1. One (1) board member, who may not be an elected official or employee of the City, is appointed by the other eight (8) board members.
  1. Terms
    1. The board members appointed by the city council serve at the pleasure of the city council.
    1. The elected employee board members serve staggered four-year terms commencing on the first Monday in July.
    1. The Mayor or designee serves at the discretion of the Mayor during the Mayor’s term of office.
    1. The nineth board member serves a four-year term.
    1. A vacancy is filled and a replacement is made in the same manner as original selections, except that a vacancy in one of the elected employee positions is filled by appointment by the other three (or a minimum of two) elected employee board members, which appointment is until the next annual election.
