Title 10 Regulation of Activities
Division II. License Code
Chapter 10.36 Gas Transmission and Distribution
Section 10.36.230 Cathodic Protection of Pipes
- A gas franchisee must give notice and detailed plans showing the location of each component to the director of engineering services whenever pipes in a gas transmission or distribution system are made the cathode of one or more fields of electrical current or force in the earth and are electrically connected by insulated metallic conductors to anodes located at a distance from the protected pipes.
- The franchisee must:
-
- cause each pipeline which is a cathode to be connected by electrical bonds to all other underground metallic pipelines or structures located in the same street, alley or easement;
-
- make such bond at each anode installed and in a location closer to that anode than any other anode;
-
- make such bonds by metallic electrical conductors of sufficient mechanical strength to withstand burial, completely coated with a heavy, moisture-resistant, dielectric coating, and securely clamped, brazed or welded to the interconnected pipes or structures.
