Chapter 16A.44 Commercial Vehicles

Section 16A.44.090 Special Permits For Oversize Or Overweight Movements
  1. A special permit in writing may be obtained from the director of the street department or designee upon application in writing and good cause being shown therefor, authorizing the applicant to operate or move a vehicle or combination of vehicles of a size, weight of vehicle or load exceeding the maximum set forth in RCW 46.44.010, 46.44.020, 46.44.030, 46.44.034 and 46.44.041, upon any City street or alley.
  1. Loads which, in the opinion of the City of Spokane, have the potential for inhibiting the normal flow of traffic shall be prohibited from moving on City streets between the hours 5:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
  1. No overweight permit shall be issued to any vehicle or combination of vehicles unless the vehicle or combination of vehicles is licensed for the maximum gross weight allowed by law.
  1. Permits shall be valid only for the length of time necessary to complete a particular job or delivery and in no case shall be longer than one year.
  1. The application for oversize or overweight permits shall be in the form prescribed by the City. The permit shall require the following information:
    1. Name, address and telephone number of the applicant.
    1. Nature of the load (type of material and/or equipment to be transported).
    1. Location by name and address of job site or place of delivery.
    1. Proposed route to be approved by the city setting forth the streets and alleys upon which the vehicle will be driven.
    1. Estimate of time in days that the permit will be required.
    1. Vehicle type, year and license number.
    1. Gross licensed weight of the vehicle.
    1. Vehicle axle information.
    1. Proof of liability insurance as required by state law.
  1. The director of the street department shall forward a copy of the approved permit to the police department.
