Chapter 17E.060 Shoreline Regulations
Article I. General Provisions
Section 17E.060.030 Purpose
The purpose of these shoreline regulations is to:
- provide for the management of the City of Spokane shorelines by planning for and fostering all reasonable and appropriate uses of the shorelines;
- ensure the development of the shorelines in a manner which, while allowing for the limited reduction of the rights of the public in shoreline areas, will promote and enhance the public interests;
- provide protection against adverse effects to the public health and welfare while protecting, generally, public rights of navigation;
- preserve, to the greatest extent feasible, consistent with the overall best interest of the state and its people, the public's opportunity to enjoy the physical and aesthetic qualities of the shorelines of the state;
- preserve and protect the ecological functions of the shoreline to assure maintenance of water quality, fish and wildlife habitat;
- maintain and enhance the aesthetic characteristics and values of the shoreline;
- recognize and protect property rights consistent with the public interest;
- implement the following laws or the applicable elements of the following:

- Shoreline Management Act, RCW 90.58.

- Growth Management Act, RCW 36.70A.
-
- Shoreline Guidelines, WAC 173-26.
-
- Shoreline Management Permit and Enforcement procedures, WAC 173-27; and
-
- City of Spokane Comprehensive Plan.
- To administer protection of critical areas within shoreline jurisdiction that is equal to or more protective than the City of Spokane critical areas ordinances.
