Section 17F.030.080 Installation – Clearance at Top of Boilers
When boilers are replaced or new boilers installed in either existing or new buildings, a minimum clearance as specified below must be provided between the top of the boiler proper and ceiling.
- For power boilers having a steam-generating capacity in excess of five thousand pounds per hour, or a heating surface in excess of one thousand square feet, or input in excess of five million BTU per hour, the clearance is seven feet.

For:
-
low-pressure heating boilers which exceed any one of the following limits:

five million BTU input,
-
five thousand pounds steam per hour capacity or one thousand square feet heating surface, and
-
power boilers which do not exceed any of the following limits:

five million BTU input,
-
five thousand pounds steam per hour capacity or one thousand square feet heating surface, and
- all boilers with manholes on top of the boiler, except those described in subsection (A) of this section, the clearance is three feet.
- For low-pressure heating boilers which do not exceed the above limits and miniature boilers, the clearance is two feet.
