Section 17F.050.050 Alteration and Repair

  1. All work of alteration, addition or repair must comply with the requirements of this code for material, equipment and installation. Alteration, addition or repair does not require upgrading or retrofitting of all existing wiring and fixtures, so long as the existing installation met the code at the time of installation, except as provided in subsections (B) through (D) of this section.
     
  2. The owner of a building containing wiring which either was improperly modified or has deteriorated or been damaged or overloaded so as to be hazardous must replace, repair or otherwise modify the existing wiring to the point of compliance with this code.
     
  3. If the use or occupancy of the building or part of the building is classified as hazardous, the owner must alter or replace all wiring, apparatus and fixtures as necessary to comply with this code.
     
  4. If the work of alteration or addition will overload existing services and feeders, when loads and diversities are calculated in accordance with this code, the services and feeders, including panel boards, must be increased in ampacity to meet the standards of this code.
