Section 17F.050.150 Disconnection of Service
  1. The electrical inspector disconnects or causes the disconnection of electric service to any installation, conductors, apparatus, or fixtures which remain in an unsafe or dangerous condition following a notice or which have been connected without approval for service.
  1. The fire department may disconnect any electric service when required for fire safety.
  1. Upon disconnection of service the inspector seals the unlawful conductor, apparatus or fixture and/or attaches a notice that service has been disconnected for violation of this code.
  1. No person, except the electrical inspector, may remove a seal or notice of disconnection or reconnect any installation which has been disconnected by the electrical inspector or fire department until connection has been approved by the inspector.
  1. A Safety inspection by a city electrical inspector will be required to approve a service for reconnection of power by the serving utility company under the following circumstances:
    1. Power has been off for one year or more
    1. When requested by the serving utility company
    1. Mixed wiring between units
    1. Extension cords discovered running between different houses or buildings
    1. Vandalized wiring discovered or other noted electrical issues
  1. A safety inspection permit for the purpose of service reconnection may be issued to home owners, realtors, renters, and other persons responsible for a structure for the purpose of a safety inspection only but not for the purpose of inspecting electrical work that has occurred that requires an electrical permit according the requirements of WAC 296-46B.
  1. The fees for electrical safety permits are found in SMC 08.02.031.(S)
  1. If the inspector discovers corrections are required before the service can be re-energized, a separate “electrical permit” will be required by an authorized person. The inspector will inspect the repairs when notified.
