Chapter 17F.070 Existing Building and Conservation Code
Section 17F.070.240 Fire Escapes
- An existing fire escape may be used as one means of exit, subject to approval, if:

- maintained in a safe condition;
-
- the pitch does not exceed sixty degrees;
-
- the width is at least eighteen inches;
-
- the treads are at least four inches wide;
-
- it extends to the ground or has counterbalanced stairs which reach the ground.
- An opening giving access must have a minimum net clear opening of nine square feet, the smallest dimension being at least twenty-nine inches.
- A window giving egress or rescue must have a finished sill height of no more than thirty-six inches above the floor.
