Chapter 17G.010 Building and Construction Permits
Section 17G.010.190 Application for Contractor Licensure
- State Licenses.
The registration of general and specialty contractors is by the department of labor and industries as provided in chapter 18.27 RCW. Applications for registration as a landscape architect are made to the director of licenses as provided in RCW 18.96.030. Licensing of water well contractors is done by the department of ecology pursuant to chapter 18.104 RCW. Electrical contractors are licensed by the state as provided in chapter 19.28 RCW. An applicant for any permit for work which may not, by law, be performed by other than a registered or licensed contractor shall furnish proof of current license or registration.
- Blaster’s License.

- A person desiring to use explosives or blasting agents or to receive a permit for any job involving blasting operations shall first make application, on forms furnished, to the engineering services department for a license, and shall tender the license fee.

- The applicant shall demonstrate, by examination or otherwise, his or her experience and fitness in handling explosives to the satisfaction of the director of engineering services.

- The applicant shall deliver a contractor’s bond running to the City as provided in SMC 7.02.060(4). The applicant shall furnish evidence of insurance covering bodily injury and property damage liability exposures including the “X, C, U” perils (explosion, collapse and under-ground) on the comprehensive or commercial general liability occurrence form. Limits of liability are to be no less than five hundred thousand dollars combined single limit per occurrence and aggregate. If written on the commercial general liability form, the aggregate limits shall be no less than one million dollars. Coverage will include the City being named as an additional insured and thirty days’ prior notice of cancellation, nonrenewal or material policy modification to the City. The director of engineering services may require additional coverage or higher limits as circumstances warrant.
