Spokane is a major hub for education in the Inland Northwest region. Higher education options include Washington State University and Eastern Washington University at the Riverpoint Campus, the public Community Colleges of Spokane system, and two private universities, Gonzaga University and Whitworth University.
The majority of elementary, junior high and high school-age children in spokane attend Spokane Public Schools (District 81). Spokane Public Schools is the largest public school system in eastern Washington and the second largest in the state, serving over 29,000 students.
