During emergencies and disasters, it's crucial for residents to stay in the loop about evolving situations. Local authorities will use multiple communication channels to reach the public, such as radio, television, social media, print media, email, phone, text and more.
ALERT Spokane is the program behind the public alert and warning messages that are disseminated throughout the greater Spokane area. The mass notification system supporting the program is called CodeRED. CodeRED can distribute emergency notifications via landline, cellular phone and/or Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones. It can also notify via text / SMS, TTD, TTY and email. You may receive an alert message if emergency response personnel need to notify specific neighborhoods or areas about high-risk / evolving situations. Specific information about the emergency event may be provided, and some notifications may or may not directly impact you. This information is for the benefit of the general public and both businesses and residences located within the greater Spokane region.

The Emergency Alert System is a national public warning system used by state & local authorities to deliver important emergency information, such as weather and AMBER alerts, to affected communities over broadcast television and radio. FEMA and the FCC work collaboratively to maintain the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts, which are the two main components of the national public warning system.
The Wireless Emergency Alerts system is an essential part of the United State's emergency preparedness. Since its launch in 2012, the WEA system has been used 50K+ times to warn the public about dangerous weather, missing children, and other critical incidents – all through alerts on compatible cell phones and other mobile devices.
WEA is a public safety system that allows customers who own compatible mobile devices to receive geographically targeted, text-like messages alerting them of imminent threats to safety in their area.
