Firefighters Responded to Three Additional Arson Brush Fires Yesterday Evening

The Spokane Fire Department responded to three additional brush fires yesterday evening, August 19, 2024, in High Bridge Park, beneath West Sunset Boulevard and the I-90 bridges. Around 8:20 p.m., multiple callers reported seeing flames and smoke in the area, triggering a high-priority response. Engine 4 arrived on the scene within eight minutes and confirmed three separate fires. With assistance from other fire crews, they quickly extinguished the flames, keeping the combined burn area to approximately 1/4 acre.

The Spokane Police Department and the Spokane Fire Department's Special Investigation Unit treat these fires as suspected arson. Investigators are also exploring possible connections to two earlier fires in the 2900 block of West Riverside Avenue. At this time, no suspect information is available.
