At 9:30 a.m. today, firefighters, with assistance from Spokane County Fire District 9, responded to a report of a bedroom fire in the 7400 block of North Crestline Street. Engine 15, based in the Hillyard neighborhood, arrived within four minutes and confirmed an active fire. Crews quickly extinguished the flames, containing fire damage to the bedroom and limiting smoke damage to the rest of the home.
An adult male was transported to the hospital in serious condition due to smoke inhalation. An adult female was evaluated at the scene but did not require hospitalization.
Investigators determined the fire started in a bedroom chair due to improperly discarded smoking materials. The American Red Cross was called to assist two displaced adults and their dog.
