Spokane Mayor David Condon issued the following statement today:
“It has been a difficult couple days for the entire Spokane community as we mourn the loss of a World War II veteran and try to make sense of his murder. The friends and loved ones of Delbert 'Shorty' Belton are in the thoughts and prayers of an entire community.
I have been heartened by the outpouring of public support in this time of great tragedy. Spokane is a resilient community and has shown itself once again as one that rallies behind its friends and neighbors.”
