Mayor David Condon is representing the City of Spokane at the Association of Washington Cities meeting of the Board of Directors today in Seattle. Mayor Condon issued the following statement about the progress being made downtown and the work ahead:
“Improving the safety and quality of life in downtown is a timely conversation. This has been a top priority of the administration, which has been addressing this with the Clean and Safe Downtown Task Team of city and business leaders.
As a result of that work, over the past year and a half, we have seen a drop in downtown crime, improved services for those in need of assistance and enhancements to the structural features that are integral to the character of our downtown. That progress is a great example of the innovation that results when the administration works closely with business, social services and other community partners to lead the community toward a downtown experience that we all expect and desire. There is work left to be done, and I am excited that the City Council and community continues to step forward to help advance the important work underway.”
