Spokane Mayor David Condon has declared by proclamation today as a celebration of the life and service of Marine Lance Corporal Joshua Barron. Flags on City facilities have been lowered to half-staff in honor and remembrance. Condon issued the following statement:

“Lance Corporal Joshua Barron gave his life in service of our country. His desire to do something bigger than himself and passionate pursuit of a lifelong dream are qualities we would all do well to emulate. He was a hero to many.

Spokane lost a member of its military family. Spokane Community College and University High School lost a classmate. His family lost a son, a brother, and a grandson. Today we mourn with Lance Corporal Barron’s family and friends and join them in honoring and appreciating his sacrifice.”
