Spokane Mayor David Condon and City Councilmember Jon Snyder, chair of the public safety committee, today issued the following statement about the protocol for releasing body camera video of critical incidents:
“Body camera video is another tool that gives the community a look into the difficult decisions officers have to make. Video affords investigators and the public a perspective that is a piece of the puzzle for reconstructing and reviewing an incident. Establishing a standard protocol for proactively releasing video that captures critical incidents is an important part of the transparency in police work we are building and growing in Spokane. Now that body camera video of a critical incident has been generated and released, the City reaffirms its commitment to a public dialogue toward continuous improvement of our police department.”
