The Traffic Calming Program is entering into its fifth year of accepting applications from the neighborhood councils. The Traffic Calming program allows neighborhoods to apply for safety projects to address speeding vehicles, excessive vehicle speeds and safety for non-motorized road users.
Each year in January, the neighborhoods begin working on ideas of locations to apply for the traffic calming funds. The program has successfully funded nearly 57 total projects ranging from traffic circles and bump-outs to crosswalks and sidewalks. The funds that support the program come from the Photo Red Light violator infractions.
To help neighborhoods fill out applications, three Traffic Calming Workshops will be held in the following City Council Districts:
The workshops will provide a one-on-one opportunity for neighborhoods to speak with an engineer and go over example project applications. Anyone is welcome to attend the workshop, bring ideas, or just come to learn what traffic calming is and the opportunities your neighborhood has to implement these types of projects.
