We asked what you wanted to see in the North Bank of Downtown and you told us what you thought! Results of the survey will help inform the vision for the area and guide the planning process for the North Bank Plan. This is what we heard:
North Bank has some great assets! Survey respondents shared their thoughts on the most important assets North Bank has to offer. Top responses included the Spokane River, Spokane Arena, Centennial Trail, restaurants, and the Spokane Civic Theater. Other assets included recreation/exercise, housing, shopping, businesses and services, County government services, hotels, and entertainment/nightlife.
As we plan for the North Bank, there are some issues that need to be addressed. Survey respondents listed routes for pedestrians and cyclists, river views and access, connections to downtown, public safety, and housing as the top North Bank issues. Other responses included parking, building character, historic features and landmarks, access to goods and services, traffic, and downtown views.
Many of the new assets respondents wanted to see focused on addressing the issues expressed earlier. For example, respondents listed routes for pedestrians and cyclists as an issue, and also said more walkability and bikeability are assets that would bring them to the North Bank more often. Other responses included restaurants, river access/recreation, green space, arts and culture, entertainment/nightlife, housing, shopping, start-up businesses or craft industries, parking, a look and feel similar to downtown, businesses and services, and grocery stores.
Survey respondents also provided open-ended responses to survey questions that provided additional valuable feedback as we plan for the North Bank. View the full North Bank survey results.
Thank you to those who participated in the charrette, workshops, and online survey! With your help we will protect the assets of the North Bank, address the issues, and plan for new additional assets respondents wanted to see.
