Become a Master Composter/Recycler

You’re invited to be a Master Composter/Recycler! Spokane County residents can register for the 2022 Master Composter/Recycler Program now. The FREE six week program teaches residents how to reduce waste through home composting and recycling. This year the classes will be offered virtually with some small in-person group work.

There are two components to the Master Composter/Recycler program – training and volunteering.

The training consists of six classes taught by Master Composters/Recyclers and Spokane County Regional Solid Waste System employees. Topics covered in these classes include the benefits of home composting, the science of composing, compost pile building and troubleshooting, vermicomposting (composting with worms), recycling and household hazardous waste disposal, and community education and outreach.

Those who complete the program agree to volunteer at least 40 hours. Volunteers teach Spokane residents about composting and recycling through presentations, working outreach booths, and at clean-up events. Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic volunteering may include working with neighbors and family members.

When you complete the six-week Master Composter/Recycler Program you will receive a free compost bin.

The six-week Master Composter/Recycler Program will start Tuesday, March 29. To register for the 2022 Master Composter/Recycling class, fill out this registration form and email it to Kris Major. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 4. For additional information email Kris Major or call 509.625.6521.
