There is a growing lack of confidence that materials collected in our blue carts actually get recycled. To remind us that recycling, if done correctly, does reduce waste and conserve valuable resources, a 2024 calendar is now available containing inspiring illustrations and educational messages. The artwork in this calendar comes from 30 Spokane County students who entered a recent poster contest.
The finalists were chosen from more than 250 Spokane County students in grades K-8 who entered the Spokane Recycles Poster Contest sponsored by the Spokane County Regional Solid Waste System. Their work, created to help raise recycling awareness in Spokane County, was based on the theme, “From Trash to Treasure: Recycling Works!” The annual competition was part of America Recycles Day activities that took place across the country through Nov. 15.
All 30 grade level finalists were recognized at the Wed., Nov. 15 meeting of the Spokane County Solid Waste Advisory Council (SWAC). Of those, it was announced that the work of 17 would be featured in the 2024 “Spokane County Recycles Calendar” though every student’s poster is included.
A limited number of calendars will be available free of charge from the City of Spokane Solid Waste Disposal Dept. administration office. Email solidwaste@spokanecity.org to reserve your copy.
