With school starting up this week, we joined Spokane Public Schools to share a few reminders for safe travel habits when commuting.
Drivers should keep eyes on the road (not a phone) and be aware of surroundings. Students should look both ways before crossing streets and confirm that vehicles are stopped before proceeding. If crossing guards are present, please follow their directions.
The consequences of driving too fast aren’t worth getting to your destination just a few minutes earlier, especially if you’re putting yourself and others in danger. Instead of speeding, plan your commute to account for potential slowdowns on your route so you can arrive at school or work on time – maybe you’ll even be early!
Don’t just know this catchy phrase – use it! Be cautious when school buses are present, especially as students board or leave the bus. Please also be mindful of your school’s bus lanes and pick-up/drop-off procedures to keep things running smoothly.
