How Are You Impacted by Climate Hazards?

The changing climate and extreme weather events affect everyone, regardless of age, background, or income. By proactively addressing climate impacts, we can protect our community, preserve our environment, and promote our collective wellbeing. But we can’t do that without you.

The Climate Planning team wants to hear from you about how you may or may not be affected by climate hazards and how you would rank potential resiliency goals. Data can only get us so far. While an important element of planning for a sustainable future, community members like you help contextualize the numbers and trends. You can help fill in gaps in data, test the applicability of trends within our community, and share your personal stories of the human impact of increasing climate concerns. With your help, we can collectively plan for a more resilient and thriving Spokane.

A climate survey is now launched – open until Friday, Jan. 31, 2025 – meant to help the City collect a diversity of ideas and opinions about climate and the environment in Spokane so we can learn from your lived experience and better understand who is most impacted in our community. The survey is available in English, Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Arabic, and Marshallese.

Early respondents will be eligible to receive one of ten $50 gift cards – a thank you from us for your time and for sharing your stories. All responses will be kept confidential.

The City of Spokane Climate Planning project is funded by a state grant. The WA Department of Commerce climate planning grant is supported with funding from Washington’s Climate Commitment Act (CCA). The CCA supports Washington’s climate action efforts by putting cap-and-invest dollars to work reducing climate pollution, creating jobs, and improving public health. More information about the CCA is available on the CCA website.
